On April 24th we left the beautiful Monahans Sandhills State Park in Texas and headed for Dallas. We stayed at Dallas West RV Park and Homer spoke to the students at the Parkhill Junior High School in the Richardson area of Dallas on Friday.

On Saturday evening the eighth of April we drove about 115 miles south to Huntington Beach, California. We took a walk on the long pier into the Pacific Ocean as we had done last year when we were there. We then had dinner with Homerís cousin Terry, his wife Mary and her mother and other family and friends.

On March 14 Homer spoke to the students at Engleman Elem School in Grand Island, Nebraska and we left the Sandhill Cranes and headed back to Kansas to Decatur Community High School and Oberlin Elem School in Oberlin.

After spending the weekend of February 5th and 6th in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin with Dr. Lance and Linda Rothberger, Homer spoke at their children’s, Sara and Timís school, St. Joseph Catholic School.

On Monday, November 8 Homer drove to Louisville, KY and spoke to students at Brandeis Elem School and St. Agnes School, and then on to Bethany School in Glendale, OH. The school was located on beautiful grounds with lots of big, old trees.

We have covered a lot of territory since last reporting to you four weeks ago. On Columbus Day Homer drove to St. Anselm Catholic School in Philadelphia. They were a well-behaved group of students.

We drove the next weekend to New York, north of the Big Apple. We found some really great garage sales and I picked up some nearly new outfits for very little money. Homer spoke on Monday on Long Island at IS 77 in Ridgewood.

Well, it is the end of summer, schools have started and we haven't slowed down to give you an update.

We left Jasper on Sunday, June 27 to drive the AbeMobile out to South Dakota. We arrived in the Black Hills at Rafter J Bar Ranch Campground on Tuesday afternoon, June 29.

Two weeks ago we were still in Texas in the Corpus Christi area. It was hot but the gas was a lot cheaper at 99 cents per gallon. Homer spoke in Portland at two schools there and then on Thursday afternoon we drove southwest of San Antonio to Uvalde.

After leaving the San Francisco Bay area two weeks we headed south to Oakhurst up in the mountains and then on to Lamont just outside of Bakersfield. We continue to be amazed at the high prices of everything out here...from gas to groceries.

We are still in sunny California in the San Francisco Bay area this weekend. We will be in this expensive state for two more weeks. I have never seen grocery or gas prices so high! We stopped to fill up the AbeMobile the other day and when Homer went back to turn off the pump it had stopped at $127.50 for 76 gallons of gas at $1.68 a gallon!!

The weekend we spent near Columbia, Missouri we took time to take in a movie, Patch Adams with Robin Williams. It was a great movie and will probably win an Oscar. If you haven't seen it yet you should go.

Since last we visited with you we have finally arrived home in Jasper for a couple of weeks. We got in Friday night and now have less than one week until Christmas. We hope all of you are having as much fun shopping and getting ready as we are.

Since our last visit we have had a lot of things happening. As of yesterday we are driving the AbeMobile with a new engine installed. We picked it up yesterday in Watertown, Wisconsin an have driven over 1,100 miles in the last three days.

For our student friends in Pickens County you might find it an interesting geography lesson to keep track of our movements across the country on a map. We spent the summer working at Mount Rushmore in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. I dipped ice cream and fudge while Homer was next door in the gift shop getting his picture taken about a thousand times a day and autographing his book and others about ABE LINCOLN. It was a wonderful experience and I met a lot of nice people...employees and visitors alike.
