We drove the next weekend to New York, north of the Big Apple. We found some really great garage sales and I picked up some nearly new outfits for very little money. Homer spoke on Monday on Long Island at IS 77 in Ridgewood. He drove the car into downtown New York City through a lot of bad traffic. Those yellow taxi drivers are WILD. They will run over you in a heartbeat! He couldn't wait to get out of that traffic and get back to the country. On Tuesday he spoke to the students in Leptondale, NY. We drove on down to Sterling, VA and he spoke there at Sully Elem School on Thursday. Wednesday was a day off so we drove into Washington, DC. I got to see the Lincoln Memorial, the White House, the Capitol and the Washington Monument for the first time. There was scaffolding all around the Washington Monument because they are working on cracks and resurfacing some of the exterior. It was still open to the public so we got to got to the top for a great view of Washington. It was nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there and fight the traffic every day. On Friday Homer spoke to the students at East High Elem School in Elizabethtown, PA.
We spent the weekend of October 9th and 10th at the Country Haven Campground near White Horse, PA. It is owned by an Amish family. We spent the day on Saturday shopping in Intercourse, Bird in Hand and Lancaster, PA. I found a lot of really neat handmade items and we had a wonderful lunch at a small Amish-run diner.
